Northwestern Mutual, Kelley Financial welcome Channels 5, 9 and 19 to $10,000 check presentation for BLOC Ministries

A lot of non-profits can make Ten Grand can go a long way.

At BLOC Ministries of Cincinnati, the $10,000 received today from Northwestern Mutual and the Kelley Financial Group will finance operations for at least a full month, providing the Faith-based group a loud PUNCTUATION MARK for its ministry of serving junior and high school kids and their families.

Thanks to our friends in TV land who made it to the check presentation this morning: three of Cincinnati’s four TV news stations picked up on the story, WLWT Channel 5 (NBC affiliate), WCPO Channel 9 (ABC) and FOX19, the FoxNews affiliate.

Doug Corn, Financial Rep with Northwestern Mutual and Kelley Financial, interviewed by FOX19 – WXIX-TV, Fox affiliate in Cincy

Mr. Corn is the Financial Representative from Kelley Financial/Northwestern Mutual – also a board member at BLOC (www.blochead.org) – who won the $10,000 grant for BLOC from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation.

A resident of Green Township (Bridgetown), Corn was one of 25 Financial Reps from Northwestern Mutual recognized as top volunteers in their markets.

BLOC Ministries received its $10,000 grant as part of a $275,000 program nationwide to recognize outstanding volunteer ivolvement.

Officially, the grant and Corn’s honor are known as the Community Service Award Program.

“Focusing on teens, BLOC Ministries excels in providing mentoring, counseling and community building,” says Corn. “This organization supports families that are fractured, providing tools to help them heal and thrive in their communities.

“Northwestern Mutual’s generosity is most appreciated by BLOC, and this award will allow us to continue serving families,” said Corn.

Known as “The BLOC,” BLOC Ministries is based in Cheviot, a para-church organization uniting community (churches, schools, local businesses and individuals). The group’s focus is about 1,500 people, primarily on Cincinnati’s West Side, junior and senior high schoolers and their families.

Dwight Young, left, Founder of BLOC Ministries, with Doug Corn at Northwestern Mutual/Kelley Financial this morning.

While continuing to build upon its presence in the Oak Hills community, BLOC has steadfastly expanded over its 12-year history to Three Rivers, Harrison, Westwood and Dearborn County, Indiana.

How big of a deal is this?

Try 25 in 9,000. Here’s the math:

The Community Service Award program is open to more than 9,000 Northwestern Mutual Financial Reps and Assistant Financial Reps, recognizing individual dedication to charitable groups and philanthropic projects.

Since its inception, the program has provided more than $3 million to over 300 non-profits.

In the Queen City, Corn pushed The BLOC over the top.

“Ten thousand dollars will have an unbelievable amount of impact,” said Dwight Young, Founder of BLOC Ministries. “This grant from Northwestern Mutual will help us take care of our entire clientele, about 1,500 people, for at least a month.”
