First off, the old name was too long and clunky – the Elder Businessmen’s & Professional Association, fdba the EBPA – and the dear ‘ole EBPA needed a fresh coat of paint.

Elder Nation today welcomes the new EBA – the Elder Businessmen’s Association.

The Elder Businessmen’s Association (website coming – LinkedIn subgroup now) celebrates its 15^th year on The Hill in 2010, representing the best in business contacts, counsel and networking opportunities for Elder grads. The group changed its name, and has amped up its online frequency, as a means to expand the EBA outreach to local constituents, as well as the international Elder community.

The vehicle: all Elder grads in the business world, whether it’s the C-Suite, engineer’s office, sales department or driving a truck. If grads have a job, they’re eligible; if someone is looking for work, even more so.

“Elder grads are everywhere. We are deployed, in force, throughout Greater Cincinnati, in every walk of business life and professional endeavor.

“The new EBA is open to any Elder grad in business, anywhere in the world, who wants to pay their $25 dues and take advantage of the powerful connections that make being an Elder High graduate so proud,” said Andy Hemmer, Elder ’82, elected EBA President last week. Hemmer is joined on the 2011 EBA Board of Directors by Board Vice President Tim Humbert ‘93 (HMI Distributors) and Secretary Terry McLaughlin ’66. The rest of the 2011 Board is: Joe Acito ’63 (Elder), Russ Brown ’64 (New York Life), Sean Brown ’01, Jim Bruner ’66 (All-American Rental Center), Jim Collins ’67 (Jim Collins Auto Body), Mike Hackman ’78, Mike Holscher ’79, Greg Hyland ’68 (Cooper Electric), Dan Lally ’82 (Powers Agency), Tom Otten ’64 (Elder), Frank Panzeca ’76 (Clark Schaefer & Hackett), Tom Reiring ’88 (Elder) and Gary Wolf ’70.

The EBA annually awards two $1,000 scholarships to two college-bound Elder seniors, a program funded by EBA events such as the Golf Outing. Important upcoming dates for the EBA are:

– EBA General Membership Meeting: Oct. 13, Schaeper Center at Elder;

– EBA Speaker’s Day at Elder Business Class: October date TBA soon;

– EBA Happy Hour at Jim & Jack’s On The River, River Road: October date TBA soon;

– Career Day at Elder: February 4, 2011;

– Elder Sports Stag: February 15, 2011;

– The 2011 EBA Golf Outing: May 13, 2011.

The EBA is dedicated to serving the Elder community in many ways.

Meetings are often held at businesses owned by Elder grads, providing social and networking opportunities.

The group is dedicated to the success and interaction of the Elder community via business and professional spheres of influence.

The goals of the EBA are:

– Networking for EBA members;

– Economic benefits earned by doing business with other EBA members;

– Educational seminars and meetings;

– Mentoring and counseling provided to Elder students;

– Financial support for Elder High School.
