Meet Tom Demeropolis, newest reporter at The Cincinnati Business Courier, covering Commercial/Residential Real Estate and the Retail beats

New Cincinnati Business Courier Reporter Tom Demeropolis, covering Commercial/Residential Real Estate and the Retail beats.

A 2007 University of Cincinnati graduate – and former Managing Editor of the UC student newspaper, The News Record – will be the new voice of the Cincinnati Business Courier’s real estate beat(s).

The hiring of Tom Demeropolis fills a reporting position left open for almost two years, when Laura Baverman departed her post as Real Estate Queen at the Business Courier for The Cincinnati Enquirer in January 2009.

Owned by American City Business Journals (ACBJ), the Business Courier had previously split the Commercial and Residential Real Estate beats in various fashions; at one time individual reporters were covering specific counties. The beats were most recently shared by Senior Reporters Dan Monk and Lucy May.

Demeropolis currently works for theย ACBJ outlet in The Gem City, the Dayton Business Journal.

ACBJ operates 41 papers in markets across the U.S.; in the Midwest there’s Business First in Columbus and Business First in Louisville.

Indianapolis and Lexington business papers are not part of the network; Cleveland has Crain’s.

“I’ve been a journalist since my junior year of high school,” Demeropolis wrote on his LinkedIn page.

“It’s something I’ve always been passionate about. I’m finishing my research paper at Ball State University. Once that is complete I will have a Master’s in Journalism. The goal is to one day start teaching other young minds how to be a great journalist, while continuing to work in the field.”

Demeropolis, a former freelancer for the Business Courier, has also worked as an intern and freelancer at The Cincinnati Post, until the latter’s untimely passing at the end of 2007.

He’s also been racking up a few awards:

Best Business Reporting from the Ohio SPJ;

First Place in online general news from the Press Club of Cleveland.

To reach Tom, his e-mail address is tdemeropolis@bizjournals.com, which will remain the same when he joins The Business Courier in a few weeks; the office number at the Dayton Business Journal is (937) 528-4400.

The Business Courier phone number is (513) 621-6665. The office is located in the historic Shillito’s Building at Seventh and Race streets in downtown Cincinnati.
