[CINCINNATI, Ohio ~ September 8, 2015] At the Majorie P. Lee Retirement Community (MPL) in Hyde Park, owned byย Episcopal Retirement Homes (ERH), a $20 million makeover is in the works for late next year (2016), marking the latest of many milestones for the upscale east side senior living facility.

The renovation campaign will be partitioned into several waves ofย renovations, all focusedย on the Person-Centered Care philosophy that permeates ERH (www.episcopalretirement.com).

Construction will start in September 2016 and conclude in three years, updating the Shaw Avenueย landmark built in 1963 and most recently updated and expanded in 2010.

โ€œAs people live longer, many folks are coming to us later in life, when there is an acute need for moreย services, particularly on the healthcare side. We want to make sure we can meet their increasing healthcare needs, while ensuring they still maintain theirย independence and lifestyle choices as much as possible,โ€ said Doug Spitler, President and CEO of ERH. โ€œAnd the research has shown that the definition of independence varies greatly, depending upon the individual.”

โ€œBoth Charles Lee and his bride, Marjorie Lee, would be proud of the commitment we have undertaken to continue to see their vision through, that MPLย would offer the absolute best senior care in Greater Cincinnati,โ€ Spitler added.

The sixth master plan for MPL, approved by the board of directors last month and already shared with residents, will:

  • Expandย the MPL service offerings by adding a suite of memory and long-term care options;
  • Establish โ€œCenters of Excellenceโ€ for selected rehabilitation therapies and provide moreย short-term complex care expertise;
  • Ensure quality designs for comfortable living in residents’ homes.

โ€œWeโ€™re improving the lives of our residents, whileย strengtheningย Marjorie P. Lee’s position as a leader in our industry, and continuing to evolve to best meet the future needs of our residents,โ€ said Laura Lamb, Executive Vice President of ERH and the person spearheading the master-planning process this time around.

โ€œPeople are coming to us older than ever. Theyโ€™re more frail, and needing more services.

“This redesign and renovation campaign will enableย us to add more private rooms and provide long-term care needs for people who are not cognitively impaired, while addressing demands for short-term rehab and dementia-assisted living.

โ€œThe line between independent and assisted living is becoming increasingly blurred. Our job is to understandย that transition, and provide residential living options better than anyone in the market,โ€ Lamb added.
