PARISH HEALTH MINISTRY FROM ERS: ‘what really, at the end, became the most important thing for us’ ~~ Episcopal Retirement Services presents Parish Health Ministry, a movement to encourage churches to renew their role in health care ~~ #ProvidersWithAPurpose

Parish Health Ministry is a movement that encourages churches to renew their role in health care, which includes promoting health, preventing disease, responding to crisis, and emphasizing a holistic approach to wellness and health care.

Lives are changed – and sometimes saved – because of the screenings and outreach the program provides.

Supported solely by donations, the Parish Health Ministry program of Episcopal Retirement Services (ERS) assists congregations of all denominations throughout Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton and Southeastern Ohio develop or enhance their own parish nurse/health ministry.

The ministry was founded in 1998 and currently services 77 congregations.

The movement stems from the healing ministry of Jesus, who promoted wholeness of body, mind and spirit. It is based on the premise that health is not just the absence of disease, rather the maximum attainable state of a person’s emotional, intellectual, physical, social, spiritual and vocational well-being.

Through PHM, ERS extends its ministry outside the walls of its retirement communities to promote health and wellness within congregations. PHM invests more than $2,600 per church to help improve the lives of congregation members through advocacy, education, and wellness activities.
